To speak and to talk

To speak and to talk têm praticamente o mesmo sentido,contudo, To speak é um termo mais geral : Fale mais devagar. Speak more slowly. Falar em público- to speak in public. Posso falar com Paulo ?- Can I speak to Flávio ?
To talk é mais usado quando nos referimos a vários falantes: falar de política- to talk about politics. Estão falando de nós- They´re talking  about us. Eles estão falando de se mudar.- They´re talking about moving. Falamos a noite toda. - We talked all night.

To speak pode ter sentido de língua- Você fala russo?- Do you speak Russian?
Falar sério- Are you serious?
Não falar com alguém- not to be on speaking terms with somebody.
Para falar a verdade- to tell the truth.
Por falar nisso- by the way.
Quem fala? (ao telefone)- who´s calling?
Sem falar em alguém- not to mention somebody.
